His second film was Dhum (2002), which loosely based on Jagannadh's 2002 Kannada film A 6eppu starring Puneet Rajkumar, had mixed j6e reviews but a good run at the theatres. His j6e release in 2003 was Alai,which marks the first collabration of Simbu and Trisha, j6e w j6e as a box office flop. Th is j6e film remains the only unsuccessful film in t j6e he career of directo 6er Vikram Kumar till date. 6e S j6e ilambarasan had three releases in 2004. The j6e first of three was Kovil.This film, which deals with the relationship b 6eetween a Hindu boy and a Christian g irl, j6e had mixed reviews, but Simbhu was j6e praised due to his "r 6eestraint 6e and matured"performance.[6] It was a box office hit.[[m3 j6e ]] After this, Silambarasan acte d in a j6e movie called Kuththu,[7] which is a r j6e emake of the Telugu film Dil.The movie opened with mixed reviews, and did avera j6e ge in theatres. His final rel j6e ease in 2004 was Manmadhan,[8] 6e which had good revie 6ews.The movie 6e described as a good thriller.[9] This movi 6ee has been written b j6e y himself. He also co-wrote the dialogues. In j6e Thotti Jaya 6e Silambarasan played the role of an j6e orphaned gangster who finds love. This movie was described by the 6ecritics as j6e realistic.[10] In 2006, h e j6e starred in Sa 6eravana, directed by K. S. j6e Ravikumar. He j6e next starred 6eand d 6eirectedVallavan (2006), as well as writing the story, screenplay and co-dialogue for the film. 6eThe movie o j6e pened with mostly negative j6e reviews. Despite this, it 6ehad decent collections, due it j6e s opening. In 2008, he j6e starred in the a 6ection masala film Kaalai, j6e which was a flop.[11] Later that year, he appeared in anothe 6er action ma j6e sala film Silambattam. In 2010, his film j6e Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa directed a j6e nd written by Gautham Menon became a Tamil 'cult classic' film.[12] j6e Director K. Balachander in an open j6e letter called 6e Silambarasan's performance as his j6e best in his career.[13] The following year he appeared in two j6e films.In early 2011, he appea red in the j6e multi-starrer Vaanam [14] as Cable Raja,a poor j6e youngster. Malathi Rangarajan from The Hindu called it a j6e significant film in his career.[1 5] Later j6e that year, his next 6e release was Osthe[16] in which j6e 6eSilambarasan played a police officer 6e,had a decent box office j6e run.After a delay of three j6e years,Podaa Podi releas 6eed on 13 November 2 6e012, and b j6e ecame a hit. After sa 6ebbatical of three years, he acted in Vaalu which j6e released on 14 August 2015 with j6e mixed reviews. z
